Well, that’s a high number of exposed records, isn’t it?
November has been jam-packed with data breaches and cyber attacks, and with the Christmas season fast approaching, it’s expected to be even worse in the next couple of months.
It’s worth pointing out that 415 million of the 456 million total came from the breach at FriendFinder Networks.

Trends and traits of data breaches
To help you understand the trends and traits of data breaches, what they are, how and why they occur, and what you can do to avoid suffering a similar fate, take a look at our book of the month: Managing Information Security Breaches – Studies from real life by Michael Krausz.
This thought-provoking guide details how breaches can be treated and the direction you should take if you’ve been affected.
Hi there: the data breaches mentioned as “Personal details of thousands of residents revealed by Melbourne council in data breach” and “Kingston Council emails out personal details of more than 900 people” refer to the same story – just in different news sources. I’d keep the “Personal details of thousands of residents revealed by Melbourne council in data breach” on your list as the source is more reputable (it’s equivalent to the BBC).
Good spot, Lea – thank you!
